Introduction:

  • Fatehpur is a small town, established in year 1451. It is also called the culture capital of Shekhawati and it is well connected with Roads and Railways.
  • The college of Agriculture, Fatehpur-Shekhawati is located on NH-52 about 8 km before Fatehpur-Shekhawati town. The nearest railway station is Fatehpur-Shekhawati.

Need of this college:

  • Erstwhile, Sikar district of Rajasthan was not having any government agriculture college and to cater the growing needs of higher education, there was a need to establish Agriculture College at Fatehpur.
  • The objective of establishment of college was to develop trained man power and to accelerate sustained economic growth in the current highly competitive global environment.
  • In order to face the challenges of globalization and liberalization in the field of higher education, the college will endowed its faculty and students with modern technologies, facilities and resources so as to enhance their competency and quality of teaching so they are able to contribute constantly towards learning & research. It is true that conducive environment with updated technological inputs and latest information helps not only providing quality education but also provides human touch and ensures fervent dedication to the cause of the nation and the society.
  • With the above facts and figure it became necessary to establish college in this region and since Agriculture Research Station and Krishi Vigyana Kendra was already functioning at Fatehpur-Shekhawati, since 1984 and 1976 respectively. Therefore at the same place it was beneficial in terms of utilizing farm resources and to provide ground practical knowledge, College of agriculture has been established at Fatehpur-Shekhawati. The College has 36 ha land as per ICAR norms.

Climatic Conditions:

  • The Transitional Plain of Inland Drainage (zone IIa) of Rajasthan, comprising the district of Sikar, Jhunjhunu, Nagaur and eastern Churu (Churu, Taranagar and Rajgarh tehsils) is situated between 26021’N to 28058’N latitude and 73005’E to 76005’ E longitude.
  • The geographical area of the zone is about 3.69 million hectares which represents 10.8 per cent of the total area of the state. The temperature ranges from -8oC in winter to 48oC in summer. It is located in the west of the Aravalli range and is characterized by low and erratic rainfall, moving sand dunes, poor and impeded drainage and problems of soil salinity and sodicity.
  • The soils are sandy loam and crop cultivation is restricted due to slow depth and stony surface. Red soils, saline and litho soils are found in depressions.
  • The rainfall ranges from 300 mm in the west to about 500 mm in the eastern parts of the zone. Much part of the zone has problematic irrigation water (high residual sodium carbonate).
  • Major crops of the zone are pearlmillet, clusterbean and pulses in the kharif season and wheat, barley, mustard and chickpea in rabi season.

About the College:

  • The College of Agriculture, Fatehpur-Shekhawati (District:Sikar) came into existence on September 25, 2013 as a constituent college of Swami Keshwanand Rajasthan Agricultural University, Bikaner, vide State Govt. letter No. F.1(2) Agri-3/2013 Dated:11.09.2013 and later became a constituent college of newly instituted Sri Karan Narendra Agriculture University, Jobner (Jaipur) vide Govt. • The lead function of the college is to impart quality education to students aspiring for higher education in agriculture.
  • The location of College of Agriculture, Fatehpur-Shekhawati is unique in the sense that Agriculture Research Station (ARS) is in the vicinity of college campus and Bhartiya Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) is at 12 km distance.
  • In nutshell all three components of agriculture (teaching, research and extension) exist at the same location to provide all type exposure to students.
  • College of Agriculture is utilizing the facility of both the center as and when needed in terms of faculty, extension activities and resources to provide better practical knowledge to our students by interacting with farmers.
  • The teaching is the prior objective of the college as it brings the intellectual, personal and cultural development. Both the centers (KVK and ARS) contribute to college with a view to prepare a student for a career leading directly or indirectly for the upliftment of rural development in various fields of agriculture and allied branches.
