Dr. B.L. Jat was born on 12th May, 1966 in village Murlipura, Jobner. Dr. Jat obtained his B.Sc. (Ag) in 1990, M.Sc. (Ag.) Entomology with gold medal in 1992 and Ph.D. Entomology in 1999 from S.K. Rajasthan Agricultural University, Bikaner. Dr. Jat started his academic carrier as Assistant Professor from 8th May, 1996 at SKRAU, Bikaner and worked at KVK Borwat, Banswara for four years. He was conferred by Appreciation Certificate of District Collector, Banswara, Hon`ble Vice-Chancellor and Director Extension, DEE, SKRAU, Bikaner for outstanding work for organizing training programmes, compiling reports and popularizing innovative agricultural technologies among the farmers. He was promoted as Associate Professor in 2008 and Professor with effect from 08.05.2011.
Dr. Jat was transferred to SKN College of Agriculture, Jobner on 22nd July, 2000 and provided his services at this campus up to 22nd July, 2021. He joined as University Head, Department of Entomology, Sri Karan Narendra Agriculture University, Jobner on 06-2-2020. Dr. Jat was also assigned the responsibility of University Librarian of SKN Agriculture University, Jobner from 1st January, 2020 to July 2021. Prior to this he also worked as Campus Head for two years. He has been working in teaching for last 20 years and taught almost all the courses of Entomology running in UG, PG and Ph.D. He is specialized in Integrated Pest Management and guided 16 M.Sc. (Ag.) and 8 Ph.D. students as Major Advisor, 2 Ph. D. students as Co-Advisor and acted as a member in the Advisory Committee of about 80 students of M.Sc. (Ag.) and Ph.D. of other Departments including Entomology.
During his service tenure, Dr. Jat worked as Principal Investigator and Co-Principal Investigator of five research projects related to Insect Biodiversity and testing bio-efficacy of new insecticide molecules in field crops and vegetables. He established an Insect Biodiversity laboratory and insectary under RKVY. He has published 65 research papers in national and international journals, wrote three practical manuals, five bulletins, several articles and book chapters. He participated in 25 national seminars/ workshops/ conferences/ symposia/ trainings.
Dr. Jat acted as Hostel warden, Chief Hostel Warden, NCC Incharge, ADSW (for 5 years). He also acted as Assistant Examination Superintendent (PG and UG), Advisor Students Union, Incharge Central Store, Convener/ Member in various committees viz., Academic Council, Committee of Courses, Board of Studies, Extension Action, Disciplinary Action, Election, Tender, Auction, Guest faculty selection, Campus maintenance, Anti-raging etc.
Dr. Jat got Certificate of Appreciation by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor for grant of research project under RKVY on the occasion of Republic Day in 2018. He was conferred best poster presentation award in the National Workshop on Spices and Aromatic Plants in 21st century organized at S.K.N. College of Agriculture, Jobner (Jaipur) 20-21th December 2009. He is the life member of Entomological Research Association, Udaipur, Rajasthan; Plant Protection Association of India, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad; Indian Society for the Advancement of Insect Science, Ludhiana, Punjab and Entomological Society of India, IARI, New Delhi and acted as scientific referee for several prestigious journals. Dr. Jat is Life Fellow of Entomological Society of India, IARI, New Delhi.
By the affords of Dr. Jat Dhanuka Agritech Fellowship started for meritorious students of M.Sc. (Ag.) & Ph. D. Entomology (SKNCOA, Jobner), one from each @ Rs. 5000/- month and Rs. 10000/- departmental contingency per year since 2016 by Dhanuka Agritech limited.
Dr. Jat worked on the post of Dean at College of Agriculture, Baseri, Dholpur from July, 2021 to September, 2021, and Agriculture Scientist in ATIC, Directorate of Extension Education, Jobner, Jaipur. Dr. Jat also worked on the post of Director Extension Education, SKNAU, Jobner from June to Dec., 2023 and as Dean and Faculty Chairman, Sri Karan Narendra College of Agriculture, Jobner from Jan., 2023 to Dec. 2023 (Sri Karan Narendra Agriculture University) Jobner, Jaipur.
