Livestock Production Management (Animal Breeding & Management)

Dr. Juned Akhter was born on 1st January 1967 at Sheeshgarh, District Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, India. He is a distinguished academician, researcher, and administrator in the field of Agriculture and Animal Sciences, with more than three decades of experience in teaching, research, and extension education.

Dr. Akhter completed his schooling from the U.P. Board, Allahabad, securing First Division in both Secondary (1983) and Higher Secondary (1985) examinations with Agriculture as his subject. He obtained his B.Sc. (Ag.) degree in First Division from Agra University in 1988. He pursued his post-graduation (M.Sc. in Dairy Husbandry) from Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, in 1991, securing an OGPA of 4.516/5.00. He further completed his Ph.D. in Animal Breeding from the same university in 1998 with an OGPA of 4.606/5.00. His doctoral research was entitled “Evaluation of Genetic Parameters of First Lactation Traits and Their Use in Construction of Selection Indices.”

Dr. Akhter began his academic career as an Assistant Professor in 1996 and served in this capacity for 12 years. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2008 and subsequently to Professor (Livestock Production & Management) in 2011. Over the years, he has taught 22 undergraduate and postgraduate courses covering 54 credit hours, guiding and mentoring numerous students in the field of animal husbandry and livestock management.

In addition to his academic responsibilities, Dr. Akhter has held several important administrative positions. He served as Chief Scientist & Head of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Fatehpur-Shekhawati, Sikar, for 17 years (2001–2018), where he played a significant role in promoting innovative agricultural technologies and farmer-oriented extension activities. He also served as University Head, Livestock Production & Management (2022–2024). Presently, he is serving as Dean, College of Agriculture, Baseri (Dholpur), contributing to academic leadership and institutional development.

Dr. Akhter has actively contributed to research and extension. He successfully implemented an Integrated Farming System project funded by NABARD worth ₹30.00 lakhs. He has published 10 research papers/abstracts and prepared 85 extension publications including pamphlets, folders, reports, and compendiums for the benefit of farmers and stakeholders.

In recognition of his outstanding contribution to agricultural innovation and extension, Dr. Akhter received the First KVK–NIF Partnership Award (₹50,000) at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi, on 4 March 2017. He was also honored with the State Innovation Council Award on 11 March 2017.
